Comet 4c - Texture Baking - Navigator's Station

Fig. 1: Flight Navigator’s Station - daylight

The navigators station is now fully rendered and animated. As with other parts of the cockpit, the lighting is dynamic, with a dimmer knob controlling off/on/brightness. The largest part of the work was undoubtedly unwrapping, which is a chore that cannot be overestimated. It is a gobbler of time. Screenshots are from X-Plane 9.67.

Fig. 2: Flight Navigator’s Station - early morning, with illumination turned on.

Fig. 3: Close-up of the main instruments, from left to right: big Marconi ADF dials, Marconi ADF controllers, outside air temperature, Mach meter and conventional ADF indicator and comms/audio switch box. These work in the simulator. The following are cosmetically accurate, but have no (or virtually no) function in X-Plane: oxygen mask and regulator, power switch box and HF radio controller.

Fig. 4: As Fig. 3, but at dawn, with the lighting dimmer turned up to full.

Fig. 5: As Fig. 4, but at night.

Fig. 6: The true air speed and drift indicator, and omni-bearing indicators. Also a glimpse of the forward galley beyond.
